wonder how if many people know how it feels to be a punching bag. Physically and emotionally. Everyone seems to get a perverse pleasure in making another feel bad. Just as long as they're not the butt of the joke, of course. It's all good and well when you're in the crowd and ganging up on another person. It isn't so easy to join the other side. Especially when you almost definitely lose. What's the point? Morals? Your conscience?
Lets take an example from Chinese class today. I was sitting at my desk, packing up some maths stuff and finding my Chinese stuff.
I stood up to go put my PE stuff on the back of my chair so it would dry and not be as disgusting when I had to put them back on. Then someone just had the good idea of sitting on my seat. As his good friend was right beside him. And of course, he wouldn't get off. No matter what. I don't really want to make a big fuss. Anyway, there isn't much I can really do about it. So ok, there's an empty seat at the back of the class, I'll go sit there. So off I go.
It just so happens that the seat beside me is also empty. What a coincidence. And someone else decides that it would be fun to sit beside me during the lesson. After all, we do hold interesting conversations at times. But right now, I don't really want to talk to him. I need to listen in class. It's really distracting when someone beside you is talking to you. Anyway, it doesn't occur to him that I am not as good in Chinese as him, neither can my parents help me much in teaching me Chinese. I don't have a private tuition teacher to ask either. Unlike him.
Anyway, he's either already studied the chapter (under the tuition teacher), or he will be doing so in the near future. Certainly before the chapter will be tested. So he really doesn't need to listen. So, he thinks that talking to me, or torturing me would be a good way to while the hour away. But of course, he doesn't think of what I need, does he? Of course not, why should he, as he often says - 'Why should I?'
And so, I get up from that seat, and move to the seat he has just vacated. But well, he has a very strong objection to me sitting on his seat. He doesn't have a problem with most people, but for the select few, he does. The select few being those who get bullied in one way or another. So he licks his hand, and wipes it on his seat. That doesn't really deter me. After all, I'm wearing pants, am I not? (Sorry for being disgusting). So I sit down. And he, of course, realizing that spit isn't going to stop me, complains to the teacher.
"Lao shi ah, he's sitting on my seat!"
Of course, I refute and explain my position. And everything gets settled. But by this time, the whole class has had a good laugh. And of course, I was feeling really terrible. Should I have told the teacher right out? Well, even when the teacher knew about it, I still ended up away from my own seat.
Anyway, such things happen ALL the time. Probably they are thinking that it's just a little bit of fun. That I am providing entertainment for all, and I am rendering the class a service
Still, I don't think that you'd be laughing and having fun when you're in my position. Anyway, just for your info, if I laugh when I'm the butt of the joke, its fake laughter. Just like someone who gets poked regularly on the othe side of the class is. I think. He doesn't really enjoy it. Of course, I don't think he says so. Seriously. Anyway, if you're my friend, you wouldn't want me to be in such a position.
The only thing I can do now is to turn to God for help. Praying helps. And my family. And church time. Its a real balm for my troubles.
To end off, I'd just like you guys who find it so interesting to use me as a punching bag, to spend a day in my shoes. If its possible, of course.
Well, I did not mention names, but I think you know who you are.
